July 2015 - OmniPro: Tool for processing images and meta data

Improving quality and processes in the digitization office

The functions provided include scanning image data from a wide variety of sources, subjecting the images to quality control as well as importing, editing and outputting meta data and structural data. Thanks to simple operation and automated processing steps, high productivity is achieved in the digitization workshop. A direct link to book scanners from many different manufacturers is just as feasible as scanning from image directories on a PC or Mac. The new Zeutschel software will be available from the second half of 2015.

"With Omniscan, Zeutschel already has powerful scanning software for its own book scanners. Complemented by further options for enriching and processing the images, OmniPro is designed as a stand-alone version, regardless of the scanner used or even without any scanner," explains Joerg Vogler, President of Zeutschel.

Zeutschel OmniPro is a comprehensive software solution for preparing, processing and enriching digitized material.

The clear, well structured menu facilitates fast acclimatisation and uncomplicated handling. There is an option to automate individual steps, save job profiles and process images in batches. All of these features simplify work processes and lower digitization costs.

"With the functions that it offers that focus on the most important steps in the digitization process, OmniPro represents an easy-to-use alternative to more extensive software solutions and an ideal complement to presentation platforms such as Goobi Presentation, for example", adds Joerg Vogler

Important process steps supported
The image data can be automatically scanned, including the associated technical meta data (such as height, width and length) and further meta data contained in the image (e.g. TIFF tags, EXIF, BMP).

During these processes, the images are checked in accordance with freely configurable parameters - such as colour depth, resolution, empty pages or whether they differ from a defined size.

Bibliographical meta data can be called up via standard interfaces such as Z39.50. As well as the option of full text recognition, OmniPro also offers a meta data and structural data editor, for example for registering chapter headings.

The results of the enrichment process can be issued in different formats (e.g. METS/MODS) and can thus be used directly in various presentation systems.
