Universal overhead scanning system and photo studio in one
Tübingen, March 2018 – Zeutschel is introducing a new solution for universal use in digitization projects. ScanStudio A1 is an overhead scanning system and photo studio in one and it can process a variety of originals — from stamps and 35 mm film, books and manuscripts all the way to maps, historical magazine volumes and aerial photographs. The image results meet the highest quality standards defined by Metamorfoze, FADGI and ISO 19264.
At the same time, the ScanStudio A1 offers numerous, easily interchangeable scanner tables with the Zeutschel “roll-in/roll-out” changeover system. The automatic A1 book cradle for originals with a book thickness of up to 50 cm together with the OmniScan digitization software combines the highest productivity with extremely simple operation.
The system is the A1 version of the ScanStudio unveiled last year. It contains a scanner base unit consisting of a proprietary camera with a digital camera back from PhaseOne.
With the aid of the stepless optical zoom function, all original formats can be digitized in the highest quality.
Further components are LED lighting that protects originals and the A1 book cradle proven in many projects with a self-opening glass plate and automatic scanning function.
The Zeutschel ScanStudio A1 stands out on account of its modular structure which permits the greatest possible flexibility of use. For example, there are interchangeable lenses available as an option, including for macro photography, as well as the complete portfolio of Zeutschel imaging systems, among them a rolling light box for films, slides and glass negatives.
It is available with immediate effect.
“Zeutschel’s ScanStudio was developed from the outset to accommodate large formats, but it was launched first in an A2 version. There was an option for an A1 accessory kit which has enjoyed very large demand since the launch in 2017 and is used in 40 percent of all installations.
That is why we decided to offer our own A1 version”, explains Jörg Vogler, Managing Director of Zeutschel GmbH, adding: “With ScanStudio A1, users from archives, libraries and museums are getting a new generation of universally usable overhead scanning systems. For the first time it is now possible to process all originals digitally with just one single device, and it can do so in the highest standardized imaging quality.”
Compliant with guidelines up to A1 format
For example, Zeutschel’s ScanStudio A1 meets the strict specifications of familiar guidelines and standards for image quality. In the case of A2 originals, imaging results can be obtained in line with Metamorfoze Full and FADGI-4 Star.
The image quality in A1 format corresponds to FADGI-3 Star and Metamorfoze Light. With this high image quality, the imaging system also complies with the new ISO 19264 standard.
To achieve this, the camera and interchangeable lenses are optimally attuned with the digital camera back from PhaseOne. In addition, the ScanStudio A1 has LED lighting designed for the digitization of our cultural heritage which provides optimal illumination of the originals with the result that shadows in the book fold or drop shadows on coins are prevented. In addition, the LED lamps are operated in dimmed condition.
The full level of the illumination is only briefly activated for the scan itself. This guarantees maximum protection for the original and operating ergonomics.
Diversity of imaging systems
The OT 180 H 35 book cradle supplied with the system enables all originals up to A1 oversize format to be efficiently digitized in a way that protects the originals.
To this end, the cradle is fitted with a self-opening glass plate, movable, self-compensating book support plates and an automatic scanning facility that can be attached to it. The generous amount of leg-room and solid foot switches ensure simple and ergonomic operation.
The A1 book cradle is designed as an easily interchangeable roller table, thereby enabling it to be easily swapped with other optional imaging systems (roll-in/roll-out). These include further book cradles and a transparency unit with fixtures for holding originals in the form of standard films and glass negatives.
